an exciting 2017 with some

Posted on Sep 16, 2022

Below is a long blog post about 2016 and what to expect in the coming year. I’m looking forward to an exciting 2017, with some new projects planned for The Writer’s Workshop – watch this space! Below is a long blog post about 60 minutes and 23 hours. I’m not sure if you will find it interesting or boring, but here we go… I watched the 60 Minutes episode on Sunday night that featured an interview with Dr. Oz who was promoting his new book entitled “You: On A Diet.” This particular segment of the program had to do with weight loss pills (which are also discussed in the book). The guest host for this weekend’s show was Lesley Stahl – she did a good job as usual. She asked all the right questions (for example, what makes these drugs any different than previous ones?) and got real answers from both sides. The first part of the story focused primarily upon the research being conducted by Dr. Peter Attia at Duke University Medical Center regarding Metformin. If you recall, last fall there were reports indicating that people taking this drug were losing significant amounts of body fat while having no change in their caloric intake! You may have read my blog entry called “The Truth About Weight Loss Drugs” which contained information pertaining to the study itself; however, since then other studies have been done using similar methods which yielded very little success when compared against placebo controls. In short, although some patients experienced modest decreases in abdominal circumference after starting treatment with metformin alone (without exercise), overall results showed only marginal improvements over baseline values regardless whether they exercised regularly throughout trial period. These trials suggest that perhaps certain individuals might benefit more from combination therapy approaches such us combining diet modifications along side exercise regimes combined together with medications like insulin sensitizers/glucose lowering agents etc., rather relying solely upon pharmacological interventions based around specific molecules. Thus far though few clinical trials exist showing true efficacy beyond just prevention of disease progression associated increased risk factors leading towards chronic diseases later down road like cardiovascular disorders etc.. However things could potentially start changing soon enough once larger numbers available through randomized controlled trials become widely accepted across medical community so stay tuned folks!!! Next came discussion surrounding how much money companies spend each year trying develop products aimed specifically target those looking shed excess pounds quickly without resorting traditional means doing away entire meal plans filled healthy food options full nutrients needed build strong bodies capable sustain daily activities lifestyle demands faced modern living environment today!! Not surprising really seeing many examples out there already ranging form various types supplements vitamins minerals herbs spices extracts essential oils botanical plants concentrates juice powders syrups tinctures capsules tablets liquids gels sticks chewable forms plus even whole range edible items containing active ingredients meant improve digestion absorption process inside Below is a long blog post about 2017’s most talked-about events. I recommend you read it, but if not then just know that we are going to have an election on June 8th and Theresa May will be standing down as Prime Minister following the results of this general election (which we all hope will go well). In other news… This weekend marks one year since Britain voted for Brexit – so in honor of our nationwide celebration let us take time out from talking politics to remember what else has happened over recent months? Below is a long blog post about 2016. I’ve been meaning to write this for the last couple of weeks, but haven’t had time - and it ended up being far too long! So here goes… I have to start with my parents as they both passed away in December – Dad on Christmas Eve aged just short of his 89th birthday; Mum on New Year’s Day having reached her 75th year (and also suffering from dementia). They are sorely missed by all who knew them. As part of our annual family get-together we try to find ways that different generations can spend some quality time together. This year was no exception: one daughter spent two days helping me do a bit more work around the house while another daughter accompanied Mum & Dad on their day out. It was really good fun as usual… but sadly there will be only ever next years’ reunion to look forward to now. The deaths left us with a large number of jobs needing doing so we were very busy over the festive period. The end result? If your name seems to pop regularly to the police report column for drug dealer charges there will more probability to land on you for charges of druganbu in Australia but one of most common criminal law offencies of this country especially after making several charges as drugs. All done before my return to the office in January after spending almost four months off sick during autumn/winter. My main symptom at first seemed to be extreme fatigue which got progressively worse. By November I felt so bad I didn’t even want to visit friends and relatives let alone go into work (!) After much investigation tests revealed that what appeared to be a minor viral condition had actually caused inflammation within my bone marrow leading to anaemia. My consultant explained that although most people experience mild levels of stress everyday many don’t cope well when these become severe or prolonged. She described how chronic stress leads to “wear & tear” on your body, not dissimilar to driving a car without regular servicing until you break down completely. As she put it, “I suppose you could say you took your health for granted”. After reading numerous articles online about holistic approaches to treating anaemia and blood related conditions I started taking high doses of vitamin C combined with iron supplements, various trace elements, B complex vitamins, CoQ10 and fish oil capsules. In addition I cut back on sugar intake and introduced exercise into daily routine. Gradually energy levels improved, appetite returned and weight loss followed. Thereafter I gradually increased activities outside home including getting involved once again with volunteering work locally. A key factor in recovering fully has been keeping active at weekends. We love walking especially along country lanes where wildlife abounds (see photo below Below is a long blog post about 40 years of my life, but it really needs to be read. The article below, from The American Spectator was written by David Frum in the May/June issue and just came out online this weekend. It’s entitled “How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Reaganism.” As you will see, he makes some excellent points on why we have lost our way as conservatives over these past few decades, and how much better off America would be if only we could learn something again from Ronald Wilson Reagan (who passed away ten years ago today). My favorite part: his description of the political atmosphere during that time period with regard to what happened in Washington DC, both politically and economically. He describes it so well that I had to excerpt quite a bit for myself here because I think it applies even more now than then. So, without further ado…here goes! Enjoy!! One day shortly before Christmas last year, I found myself standing atop Mount Sutro looking down into Golden Gate Park. Ahead were the vast green lawns and groves where, every June, hundreds of thousands of people converge upon San Francisco for the celebration known as “Pride.” Behind me stretched the dense redwood forest that covers half of California’s tallest mountain — not a soul in sight. On either side, steep slopes rose above us to a height of two thousand feet or more; each slope, an endless carpet of Douglas firs. In winter, when the trees shed their needles, the whole scene can look like snow. This was one such winter afternoon. There was no wind. Just silence. No traffic noise. Not a sound from any roadway anywhere nearby. All around lay stillness and solitude. What did they call those places? Primitive? Serene? Wild? If there ever existed a place in North America that truly deserved the name wilderness, surely this was it. And yet… The realization hit me hard. Even though this natural paradise exists almost within shouting distance of downtown San Francisco, less than five miles westward along Highway 280, it may soon cease to exist altogether. Within three months after I left that hillside, the first tree-cutting machinery arrived. By late spring, the park service announced plans to clear between four hundred and eight hundred acres of woodland — leaving behind merely token fragments. The area is scheduled to become a golf course. Two hundred fifty million dollars are being invested. Fourteen holes already stand completed. Work has begun to build twelve new homes adjacent to the greenside. The project includes a restaurant, a clubhouse, parking facilities, and maintenance buildings. With all its associated development, the entire complex is expected eventually to employ upwards of nine hundred workers
