Below is a long blog post about 50+ of my favorite and useful resources for teaching music theory. I have been writing about how to teach the elements of music, specifically rhythm, melody, harmony, form/structure, texture, dynamics, timbre, meter, tempo, articulation, etc., on my website since November 2018. As I wrote those articles in addition to my regular job as an elementary school band director, I had to look up tons of stuff online. It was so much fun that I decided to create this list! My hope with these posts is that they can be used by any teacher (or student) who needs help or inspiration when it comes to implementing some kind of new methodology into their classroom curriculum. All the content below contains links directly from the source websites unless otherwise stated. The numbering system does not necessarily correlate between each section because I like to group similar types of content together even if there are no exact numerical matches within one topic area alone (i.e.: “Meter” has its own page separate from other topics such as “Rhythmic Variation”). If you need additional information about anything listed here then please feel free contact me via email at [email protected]. Thanks again! Enjoy!! :-) PS: Please share widely!!! Below is a long blog post about 10 things I’ve learned since being diagnosed with depression. I was recently interviewed by the amazing Shannon Cohen, who has been an inspiration to me for many years now! In my opinion it is imperative that people suffering from chronic pain have a strong support system in place because having such debilitating symptoms makes life so much harder than usual. Below is a long blog post about 2016, written by one of my oldest and closest friends. I wrote this for me to read as an end-of-year reflection on the past year’s blessings — but it also makes me smile because she has so many great things planned for herself in 2017! The title is: “I Am Enough” Below is a long blog post about 18th century France. I thought it was interesting, and some of you may also find it so! A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to visit the Château de Fontainebleau with my friend Tanya from England. We took the bus there (€5 each way) which left at noon on Thursdays from place St-Michel in Paris. It takes about an hour but we arrived by early afternoon because traffic can be quite bad between Paris and Fontainebleau. You must buy tickets before boarding – they are available for purchase inside or outside the ticket office underneath a glass roof. We got off near the château entrance where we purchased our €9 tickets that included audio guides – essential if your French isn’t very good as most information boards only have French explanations. The château grounds cover nearly four square kilometres; however all paths lead back to the main building. If you don’t want to walk around aimlessly then get yourself a map in the first room after entering through one of five gates: Porte Dorée, Porte François Ier, Porte Saint Antoine, Porte du Cheval Blanc, Portrait de la Reine et du Roi. Each gate leads into different gardens and buildings and has its own history. My favourite gateway is called Porte François Ier built in 1524 which contains ornate decoration including statues representing agriculture, industry, warfare etc. Unfortunately this gateway doesn’t lead directly onto any pathways within the castle itself although visitors often take pictures while standing right next to it without realising what else might lie ahead beyond those walls… The best time for seeing everything would probably be when tourists aren’t present during weekends since many people come here especially over summer holidays due both its proximity towards Paris plus beautiful surroundings comprised mostly ponds filled full blooming flowers throughout spring season making even more attractive setting overall not forgetting famous artists who painted portraits like Rubens himself doing his masterpiece entitled “La Grande Galerie” showing various scenes occurring behind closed doors e g Louis XIV sitting among court ladies sipping tea together enjoying light conversation thus leaving us viewers amazed how much effort went into producing such impressions despite lack modern technology involved today . If possible try avoid crowds whenever possible , especially near lunchtime hours when everyone rushes out fast food establishments situated nearby area looking hungry tired eyes waiting desperately wanting something quick eat whilst escaping busy day routine life experiences trying rest relax mind body soul hopefully finding peace amidst chaos surrounding daily tasks required surviving living breathing existence constantly changing ever evolving forever expanding infinite universe unlimited possibilities unknown destinies awaiting adventures yet undiscovered mysterious secrets hidden deep beneath surface revealing wonders wonderous discoveries waiting patiently eagerly excitedly anticip Below is a long blog post about 50 books. It might take you some time to read it all! The idea of the project was originally from one of my best friends, who loves to read as much as I do and we have many similar tastes in literature. Soon after having this conversation with her (I don’t even remember when), she invited me for dinner at her place and she handed over two small boxes full of random books that were left by previous tenants or visitors: “These are yours now!” She said happily. Well… It was like Christmas came early for me that night because those books had been on top of my reading wish list forever already. But instead of keeping them hidden under my bed until someone else comes up with such an ingenious gift, which would probably be never; I decided to start my own book collection project – 52 Books in 365 Days. And there has not yet been any sign that anyone will ever come up with something more clever than what my friend did last year. The only thing I can say here is thank God that she does exist otherwise I wouldn’t know where to find these little treasures anymore! What makes a good life? A happy marriage? Fame? Money? This question lies at the heart of Robert Greene’s groundbreaking new book…
