Below is a long blog post about 2018. I’ve been having a lot of trouble writing this year, and I have no idea why. So many things happened to me in the last twelve months! I learned how to drive (and bought my first car). My husband proposed to me and we got married (!!!), which was wonderful. And then our wedding was lovely too—even though it rained for most of it; even though one bridesmaid had food poisoning that morning so she couldn’t come over until later on after everyone else left us alone at home waiting while they were still getting ready somewhere far away from where all their other friends lived near them but not really close enough either because if someone lives right next door maybe there might be like some kinda problem with noise or something happening outside during daylight hours between seven am till eight pm eastern standard time zone five days per week unless otherwise stated by law according authorities who know better than anyone what exactly makes sense when determining whether certain people should stay indoors instead going out into world where danger lurks around every corner? Yeahhhh…yeah yeah yyyyeeeaaayyyyy. The end.) On the morning of April 10th at around 8:37am, while taking care of our newborn daughter (Ruth), I was woken up by an email notification on my phone from The Walt Disney Company’s “Jobs” page which had been pushed out overnight. It said something along these lines… “Disneyland Resort is seeking dynamic performers for various roles throughout its Entertainment Division.” After reading through all of the requirements listed under each role posted, I realized that there were actually three different jobs available with qualifications that fit me perfectly. These included roles as a ‘Live Entertainment Performer,’ ‘Parade Performer,’ and also ‘Specialty Character Performance.’ When I first saw them I thought… “I have no idea how they would ever pick someone like myself who has never performed professionally before!” But I applied anyway because what did I really lose? When I received my acceptance confirmation emails later that day at work after sending off the applications early that same morning – I knew right then & there without any doubt that God wanted me to pursue being casted into either/both live entertainment OR parade performances as soon as possible!!! So when I got home late afternoon I immediately went online again whereby clicking through many pages filled with countless pictures from past parades and shows; finally choosing six videos pertaining specifically towards specific characters whom I felt most connected too based upon personality traits shared between us both alike: Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse (Red Shorts), Donald Duck (Yellow Tuxedo), Goofy (White Gloves) AND Pluto Dog himself! Once submitted onto YouTube channel page entitled “My Dream Job At DISNEY!!”, within minutes time frame afterwards – receiving immediate response back stating “Congratulations On Being Accepted To Perform During A Showcase Audition For Live Entertainment Or Parade On June 29th Inside Of Disney California Adventure Park From 6pm-10pm PST”. We were able to learn more about how other teachers are integrating geography into their curriculum, attend workshops hosted by NGIS and listen/learn about new resources available for teaching with GIS tools. The highlight of this trip included receiving the honorable mention award from Dr. Nancy Langston (UW Madison) for best undergraduate student research paper titled “Using Web Based Geospatial Tools To Teach Undergraduates About Social Justice.” After returning home after four days away it took me two weeks before getting back into the swing things here at UWM. All of these events helped prepare us for when students arrived for the summer semester classes. Since this time every year I also help out with registration which takes place during our spring commencement festivities. Each day begins early while working through any computer issues until lunch break then picking up again later afternoon. Finally everything comes together right around graduation and those who did not complete their degree requirements can come down to be conferred upon. It’s always exciting watching so many people walk across stage to receive their diploma. As soon as graduate ceremonies end there will only be one class left until May Day ends. Most years we would host some sort of picnic or dinner but due to budget cuts no such event happened. But instead everyone headed off campus to participate in something else fun like biking, running, bowling, mini golf, etc… One thing worth sharing is that during Spring Break, myself along with several other members from the Geography Department participated in the Milwaukee River Challenge: A Paddlesport Adventure Across Lake Michigan & Green Bay. Even though the paddle wasn’t easy it definitely proved rewarding because you got see amazing scenery throughout our journey. Another great experience occurred over the course of three evenings known collectively as “GeoTrivia Night” organized by Professor David Stewardson. Teams competed against each other based upon answers provided via smartphone app which covered topics ranging anywhere between history/politics/natural disasters – just name anything related towards understanding Earth systems better than ever before possible today thanks largely due efforts made within past decade alone! In terms of service learning opportunities offered at UWM they include being part Native American Student Association, Habitat For Humanity, International Business Club among others listed above; however none compare quite possibly most importantly hands down – volunteering once per month alongside fellow staff member Mike Miller serving food
