how accurate it will be

Below is a long blog post about 2018. I’m writing this in the middle of August, so I don’t know how accurate it will be by year end… but here goes: This has been my busiest summer since the early days with Gov. Bredesen and Mayor Dickerson (which was pretty busy). The two most prominent things have to do with water quality testing at schools – which we are seeing some good results from! And working on getting more electric vehicles around town. We also added an EV charging station downtown for all you carpoolers out there. Plus the usual mix of other meetings and events. It’s tough keeping track of them all. But I always love hearing your stories too when they come up during our conversations. You can send me those anytime via email or social media (@nashvillenancy) as well. Here are just a few photos below showing what we did together over these last several weeks. Enjoy! It was posted by my friend Renee, who is actually from NYC and she’s written so many interesting things that we should all read it. Thanks for sharing this with us Ren! I could write pages on each one of these but here are some quick highlights: It has the best food in the world. And not just Italian or Chinese. You can get anything you want to eat at any time of day anywhere in Manhattan, especially if you know where to go (and if you live there like me). There are more museums than I care to count…and they’re free! Free as in “free” because no admission fee needed – although donations help keep them going so please give generously when possible The people are friendly; sometimes even helpful! There are some wonderful things that happened to me and my family this past year: My oldest son graduated from high school, moved out of our house (and into his own with roommates), got married and then we had our first grandchild! So exciting!! And yet there were many difficult things too…the passing away of two beloved friends, one who was only 38 years old, an estranged relationship between myself and another friend for more than six months, and most recently the deaths of both of my parents within ten days of each other–both unexpectedly. My journey has been full; challenging at times but also enlightening as well. There have been moments where it felt like I was drowning while swimming through turbulent waters. But God held on tight, never letting go and he helped keep my head above water until He brought me safely ashore to dry land again. Here is what I’ve learned so far…

  1. Sometimes you just need someone else beside you. A good listener or sounding board can help give words life when your heart feels empty. They may not be able to take all of your pain away but they can certainly make it easier to carry. Talking helps lessen the load if even by just a little bit. Don’t ever forget how important it is to share yourself with others especially during hard seasons of life. Even though sometimes those around us don’t understand exactly what we feel inside, their love will sustain us anyway. We must remember that sharing ourselves with people does NOT equal weakness, instead it shows strength because we know how much better off we would be emotionally if no one was available for us whenever needed. This isn’t selfish behavior either—it simply means having trusted friends who care enough about you to listen without judgement or interruption. Trustworthy friends can often become lifelines along these journeys called living. It might seem strange at times since few people want anything different happening in their lives right now but having a shoulder to lean against really makes everyday life bearable. Never underestimate how helpful human connection truly is—we weren’t designed alone. To be honest, having someone next to me allows space inside my soul which otherwise wouldn’t exist allowing room for growth & change as well. When facing problems large or small, being able to talk them over with compassionate individuals brings comfort beyond measure. The support system built up throughout relationships becomes indispensible during tough periods such as grief after losing loved ones - whether physically here on earth among us today OR spiritually somewhere beyond reach but always present somehow deep down below ground level beneath layers upon layers hidden beneath surface appearances like icebergs floating freely across vast ocean expanses waiting patiently until time reveals itself once again Below is a long blog post about 1978 (the year I was born), because it’s my birthday and that means I get to do whatever the hell I want. I have had an amazing past few days in New York City with one of my best friends, Jenna. She flew up from Nashville for our annual girls trip at which we take over Manhattan together and drink wine until our brains melt like cheese on hot white bread. The weekend was filled with champagne brunches, shopping sprees, museum dates, great food, laughter, lots of walking, and even more talk-talk-talk. We talked about everything under the sun: college years, love lives, work struggles, friendships old and new, goals both short term and long term…and then some. It has been two years since she moved away to attend graduate school; three months ago she landed her dream job here in NYC so last Thursday night when she called me crying after getting denied by her landlord again (she is looking to move into her own place soon) I knew exactly what to say to make things better: “Let’s go out.” And we did - we went out all day Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning before I woke up early this morning to catch my flight back home where I am writing these words as you read them now. New York City can be such a lonely town if you let yourself feel sad or isolated but having good girlfriends who understand your heart aches makes it much easier than any other city could ever hope to be. This weekend reminded me just how important friendship truly is and why keeping people close to your life no matter where they live should never fall off anyone’s priority list. A phone call, text message, email, tweet…they don’t matter as much as being there with someone physically does – especially during hard times! If anything goes wrong while living far apart always remember that distance doesn’t mean less love between each person involved. Just know that even though miles separate us sometimes hearts unite closer than most would expect!! Below is a long blog post about 2016, which I’ve been working on for weeks. It was originally meant to be a New Year’s message but then it grew into something else - the story of my year and why it felt so different from everyone else in the world. I hope you enjoy reading it!
