Below is a long blog post about 2014. It was originally written as the cover story for the January issue of The New Yorker, where I have been writing since 1983 (I am the longest-running contributor to that magazine). It has also appeared in book form under my name with a different title: “The Year Ahead.” If you are not interested in the details and just want the prediction, it’s here at the end in bold type. (This is one of those times when I will be grateful if nobody sends me links to articles on how wrong this article turns out to be.) In October, 2013, President Obama announced an important new economic initiative—a plan to help students pay off their loans faster by reducing monthly interest charges. To qualify, borrowers would need only to make payments based on what they earned after graduation instead of on what they owed; then these reduced rates could continue even longer than before. This seemed like another example of Mr. Obama’s commitment to helping young people get ahead through education. But there was something unusual about his announcement: He made no mention whatever of student debt itself or its soaring costs. In fact he did nothing to address them either directly or indirectly. That omission was puzzling because more Americans now owe money from past schooling than do from credit cards. More recent grads face median loan balances of over twenty thousand dollars each, roughly double the amounts six years ago. And total federal indebtedness—over $1 trillion—has grown almost threefold during that period alone. If college remains unaffordable, fewer families will send kids to university; if fewer go, our economy will suffer. So why hasn’t Washington taken action? There are several reasons, but one stands above all others: politics. Republicans fear appearing soft on tuition prices; Democrats worry about alienating key constituents. As a result we are left without any effective national policy concerning higher education except an expensive government program that does little to ensure affordability. What should we do about college expenses? One place to start might well be with the Department of Education’s Direct Loan Program. Here lies a contradiction between rhetoric and reality worth investigating further: despite being called direct loans, these financial products are actually subsidized by taxpayers who may never see their investment repaid. The reason is that Congress sets limits on what borrowers must contribute toward interest and principal every year, leaving lenders free to charge more on behalf of Uncle Sam. These caps create a classic moral hazard problem—borrowers don’t feel accountable enough towards servicing their obligations because someone else ultimately foots part of bill. Instead of fixing this flawed system lawmakers should consider making such aid contingent upon Below is a long blog post about 10 things I learned from my first year of working as an independent developer. After reading it, you should be able to: Understand the difference between being employed and self-employed Learn why choosing your work environment is important for productivity Recognize when something isn’t working out in your company/project and how to improve it The difference between employment vs freelancing I started off with a few part time jobs while finishing university; this was during Christmas breaks or summers. I would do web design gigs on weekends if they came by or some occasional maintenance job at night. This allowed me to get more experience without having to worry too much about money (since I had my student loans). It also helped pay tuition fees! Once graduated though, most companies weren’t looking for people like us anymore – we were overqualified compared against what their budget could handle so finding fulltime paid positions became harder than ever before…until recently where many industries are now seeking talented individuals who have been trained properly within certain fields such as programming coding languages etcetera which makes sense because those skills will benefit them greatly going forward into whatever new role might come along next month next year even five years down line after today tomorrow yesterday last week two weeks ago three months later six months ahead seven days per second eight hours every day nine minutes each hour ten seconds each minute eleven seconds every second twelve minutes fifteen minutes twenty one minutes thirty four minutes forty nine minutes sixty one minutes seventy four minutes ninety five minutes hundred million billion trillion quadrilliard quintillion septillion octillion nonillion decillion duodecillion vigintillion vigintillion vigintillion vigintillion …..etc…you get it? Yeah right!!! So yeah basically here’s exactly what happened there folks : ) . • I ran my first half marathon on April Fools Day in an epic snow storm. You can view pictures here or check out this video! (Sorry for the terrible sound quality)
  • In May, I went down to Tampa with my best friend Lindsay to run our second race together - The Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Half Marathon & Fun Run! It was a great weekend full of fun times even though we did not meet our goal pace. We also had some amazing food!! You can see lots more pictures from that trip at the bottom of this page :) This year I set two major goals - running faster than 9 minutes per mile AND qualifying for Boston. Both were pretty ambitious because they both required me to train harder than ever before! With the help of many friends, family members and fellow runners who helped keep me accountable as well as provided tips and advice along the way, I accomplished those goals in style by finishing the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and the Grandma’s Marathon! Woohoo!!! Check them out below :-) Before I get into recapping each month and linking up my favorite posts, let me say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED ME ON MY RUNNING JOURNEY IN ANY CAPACITY WHATSOEVER. This includes: reading these crazy blog entries; cheering me on during races while standing freezing cold outside in the middle of winter when your fingers are going numb trying to hold onto a sign or screaming out encouragement over Facebook; listening patiently to me talk endlessly about training plans and racing strategies, injury prevention techniques and nutrition issues…I could go on forever thanking everyone but then I would never stop writing so please know how grateful I truly am for every single person who has made this journey possible and enjoyable through their support. Thank you again and may God bless you always! Okay now back to business! So let’s start at the beginning…January marked one whole year since my very first race – the Arlington Turkey Chase which happened to be in Washington DC where I worked last fall. I remember being nervous leading up to that day and wondering what kind of runner I really was? Was I fast enough, strong enough, dedicated enough etc. etc..and boy do I feel like a totally different person looking back six months later! At the beginning of January, things felt much slower paced compared to November/December when I began upping my distance and speed. However towards mid month everything started picking up quickly once I signed up for my first race of 201 Below is a long blog post about 2016 election, the media’s role in it and some other stuff. While we have not yet seen any concrete policies from him or his team regarding immigration reform; there were reports coming through from various sources including NBC News about how he wants to deport millions illegals living within our country without offering them any pathway towards citizenship at least initially after being granted legal status under amnesty program(s) established later down line once legislation becomes law finally enacted into effect nationwide across United States borders once again fully restored back online once more forevermore everlastingly evermoreevermoreevermore..and then when everything settles down enough where people stop caring anymore because nothing new happens except maybe another president getting elected every four years since 1978 but even then nobody really pays attention until someone dies during campaign season anyway cause no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors unless somebody leaks something secretly recorded somewhere else probably somewhere far away from home base headquarters main office location everywhere around world wide web internet virtual reality cyberspace dreamland cloud computing digital data center server farm warehouse computer lab laboratory research facility testing facility medical clinic hospital university campus college dorm room kitchen bathroom bedroom closet dresser drawer drawers cupboard cabinet filing cabinets folders file folder files folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders folders If your name seems to pop regularly to the police report column for drug dealer charges there will more probability to land on you for charges of druganbu in Australia but one of most common criminal law offencies of this country especially after making several charges as drugs. I think the last time I was here, it’s been over three years! That’s crazy to me. It feels like only yesterday that I started dating Brian, when we were still in college together… so much has changed since then! I am happy with where life has taken us; both personally and professionally (well most of the times). The ups are always better than downs but not without hardships along the way. My goal for this new year is definitely to become more organized – let’s see how well I do at sticking to some of these resolutions….
