Below is a long blog post about 10 years of writing and publishing online. It’s really more like an infographic, with lots of links to follow if you want the full story on each topic. But there are some interesting tidbits that might be worth reading. Because it is so long (and I didn’t proof-read before posting), feel free to just skim or skip it entirely! I started my first website in May 2003: http://www.frugalconfessions.com/ (now defunct). The site was called Frugal Confessions because we were living frugally back then — and still doing so today. We bought our house for $75k when property values around here had crashed after the tech bubble burst. If someone offered us double what we paid now, we would decline. Our mortgage payment is less than half what renters pay for similar houses nearby. That doesn’t mean we have extra money; instead, we make due by shopping at thrift stores (especially Goodwill) whenever possible. Whenever we can find something new but gently used (like this couch!) for cheap, why not? We also do things like drive over speedbumps rather than taking side streets to avoid spending gasoline. Or we walk places where we could take public transportation. At one point during college, I worked as many hours per week as the university allowed me to work. As much time as I spent studying and working out, I did manage to save quite a bit of money — enough to help me start investing early. But I wasn’t sure how to use all those savings to earn interest without getting myself into debt again. So I kept putting off opening up a brokerage account until graduate school rolled along. During grad school, I met Mrs. Accountant who quickly became both my wife AND my financial advisor. Her advice has been invaluable over the last decade, especially since she taught me everything I know about personal finance & saving money. It turns out that being a CPA means your husband gets tax tips too… And thanks to her, we actually get refund checks every year from Uncle Sam. It feels great knowing that we got “paid” while everyone else owes the government money come April 15th. In January 2006, we launched another blog together focused solely on credit cards: http://creditcardblogger.net/. Unfortunately, that site no longer exists either. It was a good idea though and we learned A LOT through that process. For example, Mrs. Accountant found a way to track expenses even faster using Quicken software. After importing data via CSV files transferred automatically between the two sites, she created simple spreadsheets which included all expenditure categories broken down by date range. Below is a long blog post about 2015, and why I think it was my best year ever. The main reason this will be an interesting read for you if you’re not me is because of the way we frame our lives in terms of time. If nothing else, I hope to show how powerful that can be by sharing what has happened over these past 364 days! (I know…it’s been exactly one day shy.) This morning when I woke up at 7:20am (yes, seriously) after only four hours sleep due to the baby fussing all night, I thought to myself “wow, I haven’t written anything on this site since July!” A few minutes later, as I tried to get ready to go out into the cold again with my daughter, she fell back asleep so naturally I grabbed my phone instead. As I scrolled through Instagram there were two posts from friends who had recently started their own websites which made me smile – they both looked beautiful. They are also very talented photographers whose work I admire greatly, but more importantly than looking pretty, their sites embody their personalities perfectly. As someone who started a website last fall that doesn’t make money yet or even really makes much sense sometimes*, I found inspiration today reading those posts; people starting off doing something similar but different enough where each site feels unique while still being true to its owner(s). It reminded me that although many have told me that mine looks like another mommy-blog/lifestyle type thing, actually no other person writes quite like me here so far. Whenever anyone asks me about blogging lately though, whether online or face-to-face conversation wise (which happens often), most reply saying things along lines such as “oh cool” before adding something along the lines of ‘but aren’t there already millions?!’ Or maybe just flat out asking ‘why start your own??‘ Which brings us full circle right back around again now—how did 2016 become New Year Resolution #89??? *I’m joking about coursework-level math problems involving the Fibonacci sequence & Pascal triangle. Although I do have them memorized. 😉 New Years Eve always seems strange to me. For years and years growing up everyone would talk about resolutions–and then once January rolled around nobody talked about them anymore. In fact, usually the first weekend of February felt kinda lonely without any mention of goals. There were some exceptions obviously: if somebody had done particularly well during December, say winning big at Vegas or getting laid every single night for an entire month straight (not sure what happens when said person gets sick tho btw..?) then yeah absolutely he might bring up his successes come Jan 1st . But otherwise unless something major Below is a long blog post about 777. The first part of the post describes why I was interested in this book, and then I offer my thoughts on each chapter as well as some comments at the end. I’ve always been fascinated by numbers. And not just any number will do; it has to be big enough so that there are lots of digits—123456 or even better: 9876543210. And if possible, it should also have some kind of pattern going on – like all ones (like pi), or alternating digits with no repeating sequence. If you read my book “The Number Devil,” then you know where I am coming from! This interest led me through math classes during school days to more advanced stuff when writing my PhD thesis, and finally to work on number theory today. You could say that what started out as a hobby became an obsession… But whatever your level of mathematical sophistication, one thing we can agree upon is that there is beauty in mathematics. It doesn’t matter whether you believe in God or think that everything came into being purely due to random chance without any outside influence whatsoever -we humans find orderliness reassuring and comforting because our brains seem wired up accordingly.. Some people argue that this innate sense for symmetry comes naturally thanks partly because nature abounds everywhere around us . Whatever one believes regarding existence after death , certain things remain true : Life itself offers plenty of chances ;) In Chapter One, David Levy talks about how he got involved in the game of Go and explains his early experience playing against computers before they were powerful enough to beat human opponents easily. He discusses his relationship with AlphaGo Zero which helped him understand its strengths & weaknesses as well as giving insight into future development plans for AI systems generally speaking Chapter Two introduces readers to Japanese culture via various aspects such as food items consumed traditionally If your name seems to pop regularly to the police report column for drug dealer charges there will more probability to land on you for charges of druganbu in Australia but one of most common criminal law offencies of this country especially after making several charges as drugs. It was written from a very specific point of view: to write something that people who don’t know anything about 3D printing will understand and enjoy reading (and hopefully get excited by). I hope it will be useful as an introduction into this exciting new technology! Please let me know what you think in comments below or on Twitter (@jamesfurness) – thanks! Below is a long blog post about 7th Heaven. I wrote this in July of 2013, and I think it’s still relevant today… maybe even more so since I just read on Facebook that my beloved friend Chris Reed has been diagnosed with cancer again for the second time! And he’s only 46 years old!!! If you know me personally or have followed my story at all over the past few months (and if not - here are some links to catch up), then you can understand why these words are extra-special: “Dearest friends, thank goodness we live in an age where doctors now believe they will be able to treat his cancer successfully once again.” God is Good All The Time!! We praise Him always!
